Question by hmikeuy: Is a hedge fund company considered a manufacturing/production or service company? Manufacturing/Production businesses sell something, which is tangible. The customer pays money, and gets something he/she can see or touch in return. Service businesses sell something that is intangible; you can't see, touch or hold it. This is not a test question. I am writing a report on a company of my choice and chose this job and wanted to add this in. I think it is a manufacturing/production company because even though you are trading stocks it turns into money that you can eventually have. Am I correct in thinking this way? If you have to put hedge funds in one of those two categories, they'd be in the services category. They provide the service of investing the investor's money for him, so he doesn't have to invest it on his own. They do not create a product.
